Hope Walks

On Sunday, June 29, Upper Room and Christ Presbyterian Church will be hosting the second annual Hope Walks event. This 2 mile walk around Normandale Lake is designed to help raise awareness, as well as financial support, for children in Congo who are living with HIV/AIDS. The walk will begin at 10:30am on June 29, followed by an outdoor worship service and BBQ. This is a great opportunity for the Upper Room and CPC communities to worship together and celebrate our partnership in the Congo, while supporting these vulnerable children. If you are interested in walking, you can register on the HopeWalks Website. For those of you who want to raise additional support, we have information on how to invite friends and family to support you as you walk.

Also, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities to help with the Hope Walks event. If you are interested in volunteering in one of the many areas, contact Lisa Sweatt.

UR Kids 2008 Summer Experiences

This summer, UR Kids will be offering different experiences for our UR Tots and UR Groupies. Visit the UR Kids 2008 Summer Experiences page for more details and online registration. Registration begins Saturday, March 1 at 9:00am.

Job Opening: Congo Staff

The Upper Room is looking for a staff person to live in Congo and work with our missional partnership with HEAL Africa. This individual would live in Goma, Congo for one year (August 2008 through July 2009), and would help develop and maintain the Upper Room programs and initiatives that we have with HEAL Africa. This includes the Grounds for Hope community, retreats for the HEAL Africa staff, hosting Upper Room and CPC trips to Congo, and working on future Upper Room sponsorship programs, as well as providing support to HEAL Africa with a variety of tasks. Candidates should have some international experience, and French language skills are a plus. We are looking for someone who is flexible, organized, and has a desire to reflect the love and grace of Jesus to the people of Congo. Applications are due by Friday, May 16.
